BioElizabeth Byrd trained at the North Carolina School of the Arts and The Juilliard School. She has traveled though-out the world as a concert artist and teacher. In New York she performed with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and on Broadway shows. Orchestras she also played with include the Atlanta Symphony, Naples Philharmonic, Miami Symphony, Miami Ballet, Florida Grand Opera, Greensboro Symphony, and the Mantovani Orchestra. For seven years, she was a member of the Orchestra Symphony of the Dominican Republic and worked for the American Embassy in Cultural Exchange Programs. Ms. Byrd was principal cellist and featured soloist with the Palm Beach Pops Orchestra for 10 years.
In Portland she has performed with the majority of the musical theater producing companies in town including: Portland Center Stage Broadway Rose, Pixie Dust, Stumptown Stages, Portland Actors Conservatory, and Portland Playhouse. She is the principal cellist for Bravo Vancouver, performs with the SW Washington Chamber Orchestra and with the Vancouver Symphony. |
Teaching and Coaching
Presently Ms. Byrd is on the faculty of Clark College in Vancouver, WA and Mt. Hood Community College. Liz also has a very active private cello studio. She coaches chamber music and symphonic works Clark College and coaches ensembles in many local schools. Liz is frequently asked to judge for competitions and happily offers constructive advice for students.
She has served on the faculty of the Georgia Academy of Music, the 92nd Street YMCA in New York City, Florida International University, and at the University of New York at Stony Brook (SUNY) pre-college division. For seven years, Ms. Byrd worked for the Dominican Republic government as a professor of cello at the National Conservatory where she co-published the first book on Dominican Folklore Music. Cello & Crystals & Reiki
During the Pandemic, Liz was busy adding to her skills. Besides performing online, composing, and taking cello jazz from Berkeley School of Music. Liz studied the art of Crystal Healing, Sacred Geometry, dove deeper into Sound Healing, and studied Reiki. She is now certified as an Advanced Master Crystal Practitioner and Certified as a Usui Holy Fire Reiki Practitioner.
